How often are dividends paid?

There’s no universal practice for dividend dates. However, the norm is to pay them once every quarter, or four times a year. Some companies pay dividends twice a year, known as semi-annual dividends; others pay once a year, known as annual dividends, or at their own discretion, known as irregular dividends.
