  • Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (TSEM) shares surged following news that the chip manufacturer will be acquired by tech titan Intel in a $5.4 billion all-cash deal.
  • Upstart Holdings Inc. (UPST) shares soared after the artificial intelligence (AI) lending platform reported strong fourth-quarter earnings.
  • Visteon Corp. (VC) shares popped after the automotive electronics maker reported fourth-quarter and full-year results.
  • Sabre Corp. (SABR) shares jumped after the travel solutions provider’s earnings beat analyst expectations.
  • MoneyGram International Inc. (MGI) shares spiked after the payment services company announced a $1.8 billion deal in which it would be acquired by private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners.

  • Shares of veterinary health diagnostics company Zomedica Corp. (ZOM) surged in what seemed to be a meme-driven rally without specific company news behind it.
  • KAR Auction Services (KAR) shares jumped after the used vehicle marketplace beat earnings estimates.
  • Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (BKD) shares gained as investors responded positively to the assisted living services provider’s fourth-quarter earnings. 
  • US Silica Holdings Inc. (SLCA) shares popped after the minerals supplier posted its latest quarterly earnings results.
  • Nu Holdings Ltd. (NU) shares were up as investment heavyweights Berkshire Hathaway and Tiger Global Management disclosed their stakes in the Brazilian fintech company, ahead of its upcoming earnings release.

  • Despite solid fourth-quarter earnings, shares of medical technology company Masimo Corp. (MASI) tanked following news that it plans to acquire audio technology company Sound United.
  • Shares of digital streaming platform Roku Inc. (ROKU) plummeted after disappointing investors with its latest earnings report and predictions of slowing growth.
  • Bakkt Holdings Inc. (BKKT) shares dropped after the cryptoasset platform reported disappointing fourth-quarter and full-year earnings results.
  • Wix.com Ltd. (WIX) shares plunged after the cloud-based web development platform’s earnings fell short of analyst forecasts.

Highlights and Lowlights

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine sent stock markets tumbling, as investors fled from the volatility into more traditional safe havens such as gold and bonds. The DJ30 and SPX500 dropped -1.8% and -1.5% respectively, while the NSDQ100 fell -1.7%.

Oil’s eight-week rally came to an end as concerns grew of possible supply disruptions due to the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
