  • Orchard Therapeutics (ORTX) shares soared after the British biopharma company announced an agreement with the National Health Service (NHS) in which its stem cell gene therapy would be approved for reimbursement.
  • Exela Technologies Inc. (XELA) shares continued to gain following news that the business process automation company had already reached 6,000 users as a big step towards its 2022 goal of 25,000 users.
  • eGain Corp. (EGAN) shares popped after the software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider reported better-than-expected earnings.
  • Shares of electric vehicle (EV) maker Arrival (ARVL) jumped as market sentiment for the EV sector improved.
  • Shares of cannabis company HEXO Corp. (HEXO) spiked after reports that US Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer had signalled his support for the legalisation of marijuana.

On the New York Stock Exchange, BRF SA (BRFS), Ubiquiti Inc. (UI), Clorox Co. (CLX), PagSeguro Digital Ltd. (PAGS) and UWM Holdings Corporation (UWMC) all experienced negative movement over the past week.

  • BRF SA (BRFS) shares plummeted after the Brazilian food processing company lowered pricing of its stock offering.
  • Ubiquiti Inc. (UI) shares plunged after the networking equipment maker missed its earnings and revenue estimates.
  • Clorox Co. (CLX) shares dropped after the consumer goods conglomerate reported lower-than-expected second-quarter fiscal year 2022 earnings. 
  • PagSeguro Digital Ltd. (PAGS) shares tumbled following negative coverage of the Brazilian payments company.
  • Shares of mortgage lender UWM Holdings Corporation (UWMC) slid as investor sentiment about upcoming quarterly earnings was pessimistic.

Highlights and Lowlights

Another whiplash week for Wall Street ended on a high note thanks to a far better-than- expected January jobs report and some sensational earnings. Despite Meta Platforms’ huge miss that sent shares tumbling, Snap skyrocketed 58% and Amazon saw its biggest single-day gain since 2015.

The DJ30 was up by 1.1% overall, while the SPX500 and the NSDQ100 both recouped losses to mark their best week so far this year, gaining 1.6% and 2.4%, respectively. 

What’s in Store for the Week?

Another blockbuster week of earnings awaits, with releases from a slew of leading companies including Pfizer, Disney, Coca-Cola, Peloton, Uber, and more. Check out eToro’s Earnings Reports Calendar for all of the details and to stay up to date.

Investors will be watching out for the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ January Consumer Price Index (CPI) on Thursday to see if, as predicted, inflation eased up last month a welcome indication that price hikes, though still sky-high, are slowing. The University of Michigan’s preliminary reading of its Consumer Sentiment Index for the month of February will be released on Friday.
