As growth records keep being broken ‘Down Under’, eToro launches Australian stocks portfolio

  • eToro launches a portfolio enabling users to gain exposure to some of Australia’s best-performing stocks.
  • Retail investors want access to foreign markets, with more than half (53%) currently investing or planning to invest in foreign equities.

1 September, 2022: eToro, the social investing network, announced today the launch of the AussieEconomy portfolio, an investment basket offering retail investors long-term exposure to some of the best-performing companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).

A recent survey showed retail investor interest in commodities, with almost a third (32%) planning to invest in energy and 17% in materials in the third quarter.  As the world’s leading commodities exporter, Australia boasts a number of strong commodity companies including BHP, Rio Tinto, and Origin Energy. The sector is reaching new highs for the second consecutive year with the nation set to export a record AUD$419 billion of metals and energies by mid-2023.

“Its unparalleled location, raw resources, and favourable trade relationships have made Australia a very attractive investment destination. Companies ‘down under’ are leaders in energy, commodities, and agribusiness, all sectors being watched closely by global and local investors as they emerge strongly from the current macroeconomic events”, said Josh Gilbert, Market Analyst at eToro.

“It’s easy to see why investors are attracted to Australian stocks. A number of Australian companies are demonstrating strong growth, for example BHP recently delivered record earnings and a record dividend at a time when investors are crying out for income-paying stocks and robust growth. The ASX offers great diversification for investors wanting to look outside the tech heavy US indices.”

The AussieEconomy portfolio offers the opportunity to capitalise on companies listed on the ASX without worrying about the time zone. The 35 stocks that make up the portfolio are from a variety of industries including commodities, mining, biotech, pharma, tourism, finance and software, and include industry leaders including Qantas Airways, Sonic Healthcare, Computershare and the Macquarie Group.
