This eToro Popular Investor is a software engineer who built his own system for analysing the stock market

Meet Francisco Javier Martinez Lago (@edoreld) from France: a Popular Investor on eToro who created his own software to help him pick the best-performing stocks. Francisco’s system gathers massive amounts of financial data and, using a variety of factors, identifies which companies could have the potential to deliver the best returns over the long term. We caught up with Francisco to ask him more about his investing strategies.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m 33 years old and I live in France. I have a degree in Computer Science and work as a software engineer for a commercial bank. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking or running. On weekends, I often head out into nature and explore new places.

How do you research instruments when investing?

I use a system that I created which automates gathering, analysing, and processing data from the Internet on many different companies and industries. I then use the insights to choose the most promising companies to add to my portfolio. Once I invest in a company, I stay informed by reading their earnings reports and 10-K filings.

Did you have previous experience with financial investments before joining eToro?

Before starting to buy individual stocks on eToro, I mostly had experience buying and holding ETFs.

Do you have any specific profit goals for each year? How do you plan to achieve them?

My goal is to achieve better performance than the US stock market. If I had to choose a

number, I would say between 15-20% per year on average, though this year and

last, I’ve been gaining quite a bit more!

I plan to achieve my profit goal by investing in stocks from promising companies for the long term, while managing risk and diversifying my portfolio.

How has eToro changed the way you trade?

eToro has definitely changed the way I trade for the better. Whereas on other sites I had to worry about paying high fees and waiting a long time to trade, now I can place my trades instantly and pay almost no fees. In addition, I can buy fractional shares, which is pretty cool!

What type of trading strategy do you have and on what is it focused?

My strategy is called value investing. I try to find companies that are underestimated by the market, buy them while they are cheap, and hold them for a long time. In other words, I am a long-term investor of quality companies.

What are the benefits of being a Popular Investor?

One of the great benefits of being a Popular Investor is that it puts me in a position where I can easily reach many other traders. Whether by answering comments or writing articles, I can share my knowledge with more people.

Another benefit is the potential to earn money through the eToro Popular Investor program, allowing me to dedicate more time to my research and improving my stock picks.

What message do you have for your copiers?

Thank you for putting your trust in me! Copying me is a long-term endeavour. Any portfolio will have ups and downs at times, but the real performance shows in the long run.

I wish you good luck with your finances, as well as all your other endeavours.
