Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a Chartered Accountant from South Africa and completed a BCom (Hons) and CTA at the University of Pretoria. When I’m not working, I enjoy outdoor sports, including swimming, and waterskiing. Recently, I began to learn canoeing, which is really fun. I also like going to the gym where I do Pilates and Zumba dancing. When I need a little relaxation, I do watercolour painting.
Tell us about your financial background.
As a chartered accountant, I have worked in many senior finance positions and through those positions, I’ve been involved in many strategic and investment decisions by companies.
What is your strategy and have you changed it recently to adapt to the volatile markets? Where do you do your research?
I have a long-term investing strategy. I invest in companies that I believe have strong fundamentals. My portfolio is focused on companies with seemingly long-term growth. I diversify my portfolio over multiple sectors to reduce the impact of market volatility and corrections in the market, however, my portfolio is focused on the tech industry. I continue buying shares in the same companies on a regular basis even if the stock prices are going down, since it gives me entries at lower price points.
For research, I mainly follow Yahoo! Finance for regular market updates and use nasdaq.com for financial reports and figures of the companies I invest in/intend to invest in.
How has eToro impacted the way you trade?
eToro has the best interface I’ve used to date on any trading platform. It is very easy to use. eToro has allowed me to engage with other traders, which helps me to obtain views and insights from people around the world. The platform makes it easy to track my portfolio and the exact proportions of how my equity is used in the stock market. In addition, the research tool on eToro also gives great information about companies/stocks I follow.
Which assets or industries do you have your eye on now?
I’m passionate about the tech industry, but also keep my eye on the financial sector. Due to my financial background, investing in the financial sector is familiar to me. Especially since the tech industry is so volatile at the moment. I constantly look for good entry points into the tech industry, especially with the recent drawbacks..
Any message to copiers or potential copiers?
After opening a new position or starting a copy, it is important to be patient, especially when investing during volatile times. We all hope to earn a lot of money immediately. Sometimes, we are fortunate and it happens, other times, earnings can be very gradual. People also lose money. Therefore, the important thing is that you think through why you are investing somewhere and stick with it, even if it doesn’t go as planned immediately.
