Invest like the best: What you need to know about eToro’s CopyTrader feature

Something didn’t feel right. Or maybe it was because you didn’t have time to research the market. Perhaps you just haven’t found the investment that’s right for you.

We all have different reasons for not investing in the markets. That’s why eToro’s unique CopyTrader feature is a perfect solution for many potential investors.

Check out CopyTrader

Copy Trading does not amount to investment advice. Your investment’s value may go up or down. Your capital is at risk.

What is CopyTrader?

It’s eToro’s trademark feature that allows you to automatically copy investments of any user on the platform. You can browse through the thousands of investors looking at their performance, strategy, risk level, portfolio composition and based on all of that, decide if one is right for you.

CopyTrader offers the ability to replicate the trades of an existing portfolio, as opposed to having to build one on your own.

Who should I copy?

That’s a personal decision. However, you want to find someone whose investment strategy aligns with your goals. If you are looking to invest only for a period of one year, you might not want to copy someone who recommends sticking with them for at least two years. If you are risk averse, you can look for someone who has a low risk score. If you are looking for a portfolio of just stocks, then you might not want to copy someone who includes currencies and crypto in their portfolio.

Ask yourself: Can the following investor help me reach my financial goals? And if you aren’t sure, reach out to the investor and begin chatting with him or her.

How do I copy someone?

While you can copy any member trading on the eToro platform, you might want to begin by looking at our Popular Investors, who are experienced traders currently trading on our platform. There are three steps: searching for investors, assessing their performance and executing the copy.

Searching for investors

  • On the left sidebar of your homepage, click “discover” and then scroll down to the CopyTrader option.
  • After clicking on CopyTrader, you can browse through all of the different Popular Investors filtered according to risk level, asset category, most copied or those who are outperforming the markets.

Assessing their performance

  • When you find an investor you want to copy, click on the name or picture of the investor.
  • This will bring you to the investor’s page where you can see his or her performance in the current and past years. You can read about their investing strategy, see how many copiers and followers he has, and if you scroll down, you can also read his posts from the feed.
  • If you click on the stats tab, you can see how the investor has performed each month, his average risk score, his copy value (similar to assets under management).
  • Click on the “portfolio” tab and you will be able to see all of the assets in the investor’s portfolio.

Executing the copy

  • If you think this is an investor worth copying, click on the copy button in the top right-hand corner. You will be brought to a screen that asks you how much money you want to copy with.
  • Insert your desired amount and then click on “invest.”
  • Note that the box “copy open trades” means that once you copy this person, your money will immediately go to copy the investor’s current portfolio, and of course, any future trades.
