What Is ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ?
The ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ is an exchange traded fund (ETF) that follows the NASDAQ-100 index, which is comprised of 100 of the non-financial domestic and international issues listed on the NASDAQ. ETFs pool the assets of a group of investors and invest the assets according to the objectives of the product. Short ETFs make use of futures contracts, short-selling, and other derivatives to produce an investment that moves in the opposite direction from its benchmark. When the NASDAQ-100 increases in value, the ETF should decrease in value, and vice versa. Managed by Bethesda-based ProShare Advisors LLC, ProShares UltrsPro Short QQQ ETF aims to deliver performance that matches the NASDAQ-100 index in the inverse multiplied by three. It was founded in 2010.

A short ETF investment avoids the risk of unlimited losses that can be linked to other short trades. Any loss cannot exceed the amount you have invested in the ETF. ETFs are regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in accordance with the Company Act of 1940. This type of investment requires frequent monitoring, as the values and direction of the investment can change rapidly, particularly for investments held for longer.
