Snapchat Inc. is an American camera app and social media company, founded in 2011, by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown. The company is involved in the development and maintenance of various technological products and services, including their flagship platform Snapchat, along with Spectacles, and Bitmoji. The firm is based in Santa Monica, California.

The firm’s platform is primarily an image messaging and multimedia mobile application that allows users to easily send messages through text, Snaps, and voice or video calling to friends collectively or individually. The firm operates Snap Maps, which is a live and personalized map that allows users to connect with friends and explore events in their local area. The platform has a stories feature with content from connections, the Snapchat community, and content partners. The firm’s revenue comes from its advertising products including Snap Ads and augmented reality Ads.

One of the principal concepts of Snapchat is that pictures and messages are only available for a short time before they disappear from the app, supposedly leaving less of a ‘digital footprint’ for users. The firm is listed on the NYSE under the stock ticker SNAP.
