Osmosis is a decentralised exchange (DEX), although technically it is an automated market maker (AMM) protocol built on the Cosmos network. As an interoperable DEX, Osmosis allows users to trade various assets across different blockchains within the Cosmos ecosystem.

Osmosis fosters a permissionless trading environment while prioritising security through Cosmos’ secure proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. The OSMO token serves multiple purposes within the Osmosis ecosystem, functioning as the native governance token that allows holders to vote on network decisions, and as an incentive for liquidity providers who contribute to the DEX's liquidity pools.
