What Is Kusama?
Kusama is a platform made for developers to build interoperable and scalable blockchains. It was founded in 2019 with an extensive team worldwide. It regards itself as "Polkadot's wild cousin" as it targets developers to experiment with its blockchains. All of its operations, including purchase of parachains, participation in auctions, and access to guides, are available on its website.

Kusama encourages developers to launch innovative and ambitious projects through its platform. Although it is based on the same code as Polkadot, it has features that extends the limit of Polkadot. For example, it uses a nominated proof-of-stake (NPoS) consensus, which is a more efficient version of the proof-of-work (POW) consensus mechanism used in other blockchains. The company calls its own blockchains as parachains for providing possibilities that can surpass the traditional blockchains.

Availing parachains requires users to participate in auctions. These auctions provide users options to bid for the price and duration for owning a parachain. Kusama requires the bids to happen in KSM, its native token. Users can also become validators and purchase nodes. The price for each node may vary depending on the vision of the developer. Non-developers interested in investing in Kusama can become a nominator where they will stake KSM tokens to support a validator. This way, the community and technology of Kusama improves with the development and deployment of parachains.
