What Is Globalstar?
Globalstar Inc. is an American satellite communications company that operates a low Earth orbit satellite constellation for satellite phone and low-speed data communications. The firm’s technologies enable the provision of satellite solutions for business and individuals offering customizable commercial IoT solutions, connectivity for mobile and field personnel, fleet asset tracking, and equipment monitoring. The firm was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in Covington, Louisiana.

A subsidiary of Thermo Funding II LLC, the company offers mobile satellite services, such as satellite-based voice and data communications, with a focus on bringing wireless solutions to underserved areas where there are a limited number of cell towers and landlines available. The company serves a broad range of industries, including energy, agriculture, forestry, transportation, construction and government and public safety.

The firm’s network of satellites and ground stations provides service to approximately 775,000 subscribers worldwide. Around half of the firm’s ground stations are operated by independent companies that buy Globalstar's services on a wholesale basis. The company also sells a handheld GPS navigation system called SPOT. The firm is listed on the NYSE where it trades under the stock ticker GSAT.
