What Is DTE Energy Co?
DTE Energy Co. is a diversified energy company serving around 450 communities in Michigan. It began in 1849 as City of Detroit Gas Co., and in January 1996, it officially became DTE Energy, a holding company whose aim is to deliver integrated energy solutions to its customers. It develops and manages energy-related businesses nationwide. Its headquarters are located in Detroit, Michigan.

Its operations are clustered into four groups, three of which are profit-generating. The Electric sector deals with generating, buying, distributing, and selling electricity. The Gas segment involves the purchase to sale activities of gas to its commercial, residential, and industrial clients. The Non-utility Operations segment oversees services related to gas storage and pipelines, energy trading, and power and industrial projects. The fourth segment manages energy-related investments, non-utility debts, and other holding company activities. Its subsidiaries include DTE Gas Company, DTE Energy Trading, DTE Power & Industrial, DTE Biomass Energy, and more.

DTE has over 10,000 employees spread across its utility and non-utility business and subsidiaries. It supplies electricity to approximately 2.2 million customers in south-eastern Michigan and supplies gas to 1.3 million customers in Michigan. It publicly trades on the NYSE using the ticker DTE.
