What Is Cartesi?
Cartesi is a layer 2 platform centred around the development and deployment of decentralised applications (dApps). The dApps on the Cartesi network include both on and off-chain elements. The company aims to solve the problem of scalability, computation, and wider application issues, referring to itself as ‘The Blockchain OS’ (operating system).

Founded in 2018 by Erick de Moura, Augusto Teixeira, Diego Nehab and Colin Steil, Cartesi offers a Linux operating system coupled with blockchain infrastructure, which allows dApps to be developed in familiar programming languages like Python, without the need to write Solidity code. Developers can use mainstream development tools and software stacks, and can have it all sit on top of established blockchain networks such as Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, and BNB Smart Chain.

The Cartesi network is powered by CTSI – the network’s native cryptocurrency – which can be used to purchase goods and services, pay for network transactions fees, and incentivise node operators to engage with the network honestly.
