Operating globally, Comcast Corporation is an American multi-national media and technology company based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The firm operates two primary businesses: Comcast Cable and NBCUniversal. The firm was originally established in 1963 when founder Ralph Roberts purchased a small subscriber-based cable system called American Cable Systems. The firm continued under that name until 1969, when it was renamed Comcast.

Through NBCUniversal, the firm owns and operates a portfolio of news and entertainment broadcast and cable television networks. NBC brands include Telemundo, NBC News, CNBC, MSNBC, NBC Sports, E!, Bravo, and Syfy. This branch of the organisation also owns premier motion picture companies such as Universal Pictures, Focus Features, and DreamWorks Animation, along with television production operations, theme parks, and a suite of internet-based businesses.

Through Comcast Cable, the firm provides high-speed internet and phone services to residential and business customers under the XFINITY brand. Comcast also offers a wireless cell phone service under the brand name Xfinity Mobile. The company serves 29 million customers within the United States. The firm is listed on the NASDAQ, where it trades under the ticker CMCSA.
