Ciena Corporation is a telecommunications company specialising in networking systems, services, and software. It was incorporated in 1992 and is headquartered in Hanover, Maryland. Ciena operates globally, with offices in several major cities around the world.

Ciena Corporation’s founding product was Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, a technology developed for the purpose of sending information in larger volumes across multiple communications networks. The company specialises in networking products and services. It develops and provides hardware, software, and services for facilitating the transport, routing, linking, and management of data, video, and voice traffic on worldwide communications networks. The company also operates a Networking Platforms segment that provides hardware networking products and software solutions optimized for better optical transport network switching and packet switching. Its Blue Planet Automation Software and Services, and Platform Software and Service segments likewise offer products and services to meet a range of optimization, orchestration, system management, and other needs. The company also operates a Global Services segment that provides consulting, maintenance, and training services.

As of 2019, Ciena Corporation has acquired 18 telecommunications software and services companies. It trades on the NYSE, where it is listed under the stock ticker CIEN.
