What Is Cosmos?
Cosmos is a blockchain network that allows multiple parallel blockchains to interoperate. These connected, yet decentralised blockchains allow for the sharing of data without the need for a central facilitating party. Developers Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman created Tendermint in 2014, which provided the algorithm behind the Cosmos network. They released the Cosmos white paper and software in 2019. They are backed by the Interchain Foundation (ICF), a Swiss non-profit that funds open-source blockchain projects.

Traditionally, independent blockchains have been unable to link or communicate. Where Cosmos differs from other crypto networks is that it does not prioritise its own network. Each new independent blockchain that is created and linked via Cosmos is known as a zone, and these zones are bound to the Cosmos Hub. Cosmos tokens are known as ATOM. The ICF raised in excess of $17 million during the 2 week Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2017. A further Series A funding round via Tendermint raised another $9 million.
