Telstra Corp Ltd is Australia’s leading telecommunications company. Founded in 1901 and headquartered in Melbourne it has operated under various trading names, each associated with the technology of a particular era. Despite these name changes the firm is recognised as being one of the country's strongest brands. In 2011 it launched digital communicatons division, Telstra Digital, and the firm is the dominant player in the roll-out of the Australian 5G mobile network.

Telstra is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and London Stock Exchange under the tickers: ASX: TLS and LSE: TLS. The TLS share price dropped significantly between 2018 and 2020 as the company went through a restructuring process. Selling off assets and improving its balance sheet have put it in a good position to invest heavily in the development of its 5G network and the company is expected to soon be providing 5G coverage to 75% of Australians.

The tech-sctor and 5G network roll-outs are associated with a degree of uncertainty and this has been reflected in the TLS share price. The 6.59 AUD price reported in Feb 2015 formed a high water mark and the shares continue to trade at more than a 50% discount to that peak. The steady income stream from the firm's 18.3m mobile users allows it to return a dividend of 16 cents per share per annum. This making it a popular choice for income-orientated investors and funds.
