What Is Seagate Technology PLC?
Operating globally, Seagate Technology plc is a technology company specialising in data storage solutions for both the consumer and business markets. Its product offering ranges from external hard drives for PC to cloud-based solutions for storage, management, and protection of big data for business. Seagate Technology was launched in 1979 under the name Shugart Technologies, with the name soon being changed to Seagate Technologies due to a Xerox subsidiary already having the name Shugart Associates. The company is incorporated in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, but has its operational headquarters in the United States, in Fremont, California. Seagate Technology employs over 40,000 people across the globe, with around half of the workforce in manufacturing operations.

Key products for the consumer market include gaming hard drives, SSDs, and expansion cards, with options designed for use with Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Enterprise solutions include data storage infrastructure, cloud backup for enhanced data security, data protection for business continuity, optimised storage for big data analytics, and data migration solutions to maximise the value of legacy data. Seagate also supplies specialist data storage, for example in-vehicle high volume data storage capacity for autonomous vehicles.
