IGO Ltd is an exploration and mining company focused on the discovery and development of metals to enable clean energy. The company holds interests in mines that produce nickel, copper, cobalt and gold. Operating within Australia and Greenland, the company has its headquarters in Perth, Australia, and was founded in 2000.
Formerly known as Independence Group NL, the company changed its name to IGO Limited in January 2020. With a primary focus on the metals required to enable clean energy, IGO owns and operates the Nova nickel-copper-cobalt operation, which is located in the Great Western Woodlands. Primary properties owned by the company include the Paterson copper and Fraser Range nickel-copper projects. IGO produces battery-grade lithium hydroxide through its downstream processing refinery in Kwinana in Western Australia.
In December 2021, IGO agreed to acquire Western Areas in a deal for $785m. The acquisition includes a number of nickel mines, including Forrestania Nickel Operation and the Cosmos Nickel Operation. In February 2022, IGO was reported to be considering the purchase of Glencore’s CSA copper mine in Australia, one of the highest-grade copper mines in the country.
