Q and A with Popular Investor – Thomas Holland
Q: Why did you get started in investing?
A: When I first heard about Covid, I thought it would have massive implications, but I didn’t think to take any actions to invest based on this prediction. After that, I told myself that if I thought something would happen, I would do my best to act on it, which led to me investing in crypto. From there, I learned to look at currencies as representations of buying power, how inflation eats away at that buying power, how investing can both protect and grow that buying power, and how investing allows you to profit off of good decision-making which I enjoy.
Q: What is your investing methodology?
A: I have several strategies I employ, but my main one, which I use on eToro, is taking advantage of crypto’s volatility and future growth in order to consistently grow my funds. As my primary strategy, I aimed to make it as error-tolerant as possible to protect it from mistakes on my end and unexpected events beyond my control, such as crypto shooting up indefinitely instead of crashing into a bear market or crashing down to zero. Its goal is to keep some funds to the side, while still outperforming a pure buy and hold Bitcoin strategy, which it is currently achieving.
Q: What are you looking forward to most in the crypto space?
A: I am looking forward to a more honest and fair society that I believe crypto will eventually help achieve if it continues in its current direction.
I think we are in the initial stages of this goal, but some examples of this already making themselves noticeable are: banking the unbanked (those who don’t have access to trustworthy banks to store/transfer money) and giving them a safe place to store their funds and interact with the global economy, NFTs allowing people to track who owns a piece of digital property, deflationary currencies to store buying power (rather than just inflationary currencies), and projects within the space that are allowing people to complete transactions that require trust without a centralized third party.
An example is the crypto project, Sarcophagus, which aims to let people set up a dead man’s switch that acts as a digital will, allowing you to pass on your funds or take other actions if you were to pass away, without risk of someone stealing or interfering with your wishes.
Q: Who is your inspiration in the business world and in your personal life?
A: I wouldn’t say I have a main inspiration within the business world, but in my personal life, I am inspired by my parents. I will be happy if I do even half as well as they did in terms of their personal lives, family, friendships, and community involvement.
